Green

When we decided to remodel the Sundance Mountain Lodge, we knew for certain that we wanted our establishment to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Thats why we reused wooden timbers from the hayman fire, river rocks, and other materials during construction to ensure our impact on the area was minimal. Other progressive actions such as utilizing compact flourescent bulbs and recycling our waste makes us proud to say that we’re green, even in the fall. Please view the details below for information on our green initiatives:

Remodeling

-Reusing an existing hotel!
-Old mattresses and furniture recycled or given to charity.
-Recycled concrete from paths that were replaced.
-Local sources for materials, vendors where available. Examples: iron rails, electrician, contractor, log, interior designer, paint, hardware, stone.
-Ceiling fans on upstairs units for heating and cooling efficiency.
-Low VOC paints used in all interiors.
-Natural stone flooring and counters is long lasting and green.
-All logs from Hayman Fire or beetle kill
-Trex with recycled material replaced decks
-Long-lasting materials such as iron hand rails.
-Guest room carpet 60% recycled material (plastic bottles and old carpet) and 100% recyclable. Bar floor with Pergo with recycled material.
-Reused rotted stair steps into lobby furniture (tables, arches, bar)
-Organic landscaping materials.
-All HVAC units overhauled for energy efficiency, or replace with new ones.
-Insulation: added to ceiling of main building, insulated windows replaced single pane, end walls of room units insulated and vapor barriers, 122 insulated doors replaced hollow core metal doors, new thresholds.
- Replaced 120 water efficient shower heads. 120 faucets with aeration.
-Reused 25 doors, refurbished kitchen appliances and other materials from Resource 2000 recycled building materials in Boulder, Co.
-Repaired, not replaced cooling units for bar and restaurant.
-Upgraded to energy efficient pumps for water feature.

Operations

Promotion of Natural ambience: developed hiking trails, fountains, landscaping, balconies with opening doors on all rooms, tipi, attractive outdoor bridges, planted aspen trees in courtyards

Membership in Green Hotel Association.

Water Usage
-Low flush toilets replaced old, wasteful units
-Landscape: 80% native/xeriscape, planted grasses are drought tolerant.
-Downspouts on gutters and small natural spring diverted to feed water feature.

Energy Efficiency
-Over 1000 Incandescent bulbs replaced with efficient compact fluorescents
-Room refrigerators highly efficient.
-On demand water heaters added to hot water heater.
-Promote use of Bus, carpool or bike for employees. Bike rack, near bus stop

Materials

-Shampoo/soap dispensers in rooms save loads of plastic bottles per day!
-Recycled office products.
-Food service with washable mugs, plates, bowls. Biodegradable to go cups.
-Serve organic, fair trade, locally produced food products where available.
