The beautiful Town of Monument, Colorado is centrally located, off of Interstate 25, about 20 miles north of Colorado Springs and about fifty miles south of Denver.
Monument was incorporated June 2, 1879, after many years of settlement by farming pioneers, mostly from Iowa.
It is named after the Monument Creek that rises north of Monument in adjacent Palmer Lake.

Monument, Colorado is located at an elevation of 7,000 feet above sea level. Average daily high temperatures in the summer reach 85 degrees Fahrenheit, while the average winter daily low temperature is 12 degrees Fahrenheit. Occasionally extreme temperatures do occur, with a highs in the upper 90’s possible in summer, and lows reaching -20 in winter. The record high and low temps recorded for Monument are 101 degrees and -32 degrees. However, high temps in the mid 90’s and low temps below -10 are not a frequent occurrence, happening only a few days a year. Monument receives 100 inches of snowfall per year on average, significantly more than that of Colorado Springs, 15 miles to the south. Snowfall usually first occurs in mid-October and last occurs in late April or early May, with March and April being the months with the highest average snowfall.
